The very first step in owning your calling is to realize that God has gifted you. And, to realize this, you also need to EXPECT Him to show up to give you something. And, that is what Pastor Mike preached about this past Sunday: expecting God to show up.
How often have we lived our Christian lives disconnected from this reality? We might go about our day, like any other day, figuring things out by ourselves, uttering a prayer for this or that, help a friend, but the big question is this: do we expect our lives to be intersected by God Himself?
What kind of day would we have if we actually expected God to be there? Let’s look in on Harry’s prayer time:
Harry: Dear God, help me today.
GOD: OK. How do you need My help?
Harry (a little spooked!): Who’s that!
GOD: GOD.
Harry (still bewildered): Uhhhhh….Ooookaaaay…now what did You say?
GOD: You asked Me to help you today, right?
Harry: Errr…Yea…I got that test, and I need impress my boss so he will give me a raise, and…oh, I need and extra $20 ’cause the guys are going out.
GOD: OK, but let me ask you some questions.
Harry: Sure
GOD: About that test: you knew about it 1 month ago, and you have not even cracked a book. You want My help? Use the gray matter that I gave to you.
Harry (a little miffed). Yea
GOD: And about your boss, do you really think that he will give you a raise after only one day of impressing him? I have an idea: if you stop showing up late and stop taking long breaks, you probably would get his attention.
Harry (still miffed, and now tending towards resignation): Ok. Anything else?
GOD: Sure. About that $20: what about taking your wife out instead.
Harry (stewing, but becoming perplexed): God?
GOD: Yes?
ME: You gave me a lot to think about. Thanks for showing up.
GOD: I always have. You have just not been aware until now
So…what would your week be like if God showed up?
Blessings on your journey
