The Bible refers to Christians as sheep. But why not a jaguar, or a cheetah, or an eagle? Those are mighty animals, fast animals, or grace-filled animals. But a sheep? Well, they don’t really look that fearsome, and it appears that their only recoil if you confront them is not a HISS, or a BARK, of a BLOOD Curdling Cry, but it’s a BAAAA. Not really that intimidating. I really don’t think that mingling with sheep would be high on anyone’s bucket list.
So, given these characteristics of sheep, what do you suppose Jesus says to Peter after Peter tells him “I love you lord”?
He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus *said to him, “Tend My sheep.
John 21:17 New American Standard Bible
Feed my sheep. Take care of my people. They need a shepherd.
It would appear that Jesus had priorities that are a bit skewed from what we would call the norm, BUT, if we say we love Him, shouldn’t we want to go where He directs?
Do you say you love him? Well, I one suggestion: start learning Sheep 101
Blessings on your journey!
