Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts.
God’s Word exorts us to keep recalling to our memory that at one time we were without God’s grace due to our sinful lifestyles.
And during that time, there may even be people in our lives who flaunted their brand of religion before us, looking down on our lives.
And, even though such bullying was wrong, we knew in our hearts that something was wrong. Not because of what others said as they demeaned us, scolded us, but because God was pressing into our troubled thoughts, showing us His truth.
So, while those around us scolded us while their inner dispositions ran counter to what they professed, we are readily reminded to still not forget those times because we were outsiders.
