that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
Jesus’s purpose for His church is to have her set apart from worldly standards and to make her without sin.
Yet, there are many problems in His church today. Here are just a few examples:
- Congregational splits over pastoral leadership;
- Denominations trying to point out faults in other denominations
- Churches becoming so seeker sensitive that the power of the Gospel is diluted…or, Churches becoming so rigidly legalistic that they fail to address societal problems in a redemptive way
So, in closing, let me ask you two questions:
First, what kind of societal transformation might we witness if we allowed our Lord to redeem us from our own spots and winkles?
And, secondly, how many would embrace God’s Good News, if we, the church accepted our responsibility to allow the Lord to discipline us?
