Good morning, this is Michael De Rosa, and in light of the Oregon shootings, I want us to turn our attention to Psalm 23:4 (NASB)

Even though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil

The newspapers have stated that the gunman singled out Christians and while that is a chilling statement, it remains sobering for us because Christians are being singled out every day by the Evil One who will do whatever it takes to destroy them.

And while I do not want to diminish the grief that that victims’s families, I do want to highlight that the valley of death which these Christians saw as that gunman pointed his gun at them, was but a shadow.

Doesn’t Scripture declare

“Death is swallowed up in victory.

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”

1 Corinthians 15:54-55 NASB

Thus, death is but a shadow. It is a doorway to the beginning of eternity and that is why we fear no evil. While evil runs rampant in our world, both subtly and overtly, its effects on us will cease at death.

Do not fear, Christian! That struggle you are going through can not thwart God’s work in you because it has no substance for it is only a shadow
