The other day, at church, Pastor Mike exhorted us towards discovering and using the gifts that God has given us. And this made me think of a previous article I wrote AND promise I made to you.
Knowing about the His gifts -and even what your gifts are- is not the same as sensing fulfillment and peace in actually using them. Over the years, I have seen too wide a chasm between this: the intellectual assent of one’s giftedness and his actual follow-through in exercising that/those gifts, which brings me to the subject matter today:
Either God meant what He said, namely, that He gives us gifts for the common good; or, that portion of the Bible is just for those who only want to dream about doing something great.
So, let me start by asking you some questions in order to help you begin to consider just what God’s plan for you might be by way of citing this Scripture:
Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 New American Standard Bible
These are questions based on the word ‘delight’, which literally means “soft, delicate, or dainty”
- What have been activities that you have enjoyed doing for the Lord? or, to ask this another way: ‘What activities have you done in which you were quite nimble/agile/adept at/soft-delicate-dainty? (Did others concur with your sentiments by way of affirming your work?)
- If money was no object, and you were not afraid of failing, what would you do?
- In thinking about these activities, stretch yourself to writing out 20 of them.
So…build that list,
…believe that God meant what He said, and
…be expectant that you will be used mightily by God as you press in towards discovering and utilizing the talents He has graced you with.
Personally, I am looking forward to hearing what God is doing in your life. Let me know, ok?
Blessings on your Journey
-Michael
