Good Morning, this is Michael DeRosa from the Mountainside Community Church in north Newport, and today I want to talk with you about the simplicity of faith. Our Scripture is Matthew 4:19
And He *said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Religion is complicated. It is full of doctrine, dogma, disciplines, and, I might add, discouragement because it is always luring people to a hope-filled life without supplying the means to achieve it.
The Christian faith, on the other hand, has only one commandment: Follow me.
Now, to be sure, what we are too prone to do in the Christian church is to make sure new converts understand what kind of life they are getting into, and so we, good intentionally, fill their hands with Books, fill their minds with meetings, and encourage their hearts towards service.
And, yet, the command of Christ is simply Follow me. Try as we might we really can’t work this into a formula because Christ calls us to a relationship with Him, where He leads us wherever and all we need to do is follow.
Sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it.
My question to you is this: why are we wanting to complicate this so?
Blessings on your journey
-Michael
