I really like this saying to the left of this writing because it highlights the reality that plans are the link between where we currently are in our life and where we want to be. Otherwise…we are only dreamers, and that leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
So, make a plan. For the new year, don’t just fill it with lots of hopes without any foundational support, but DO SOMETHING about this coming year. No one else will do it for you.
One of my goals for this coming year is to reformat the way that I get out my weekly sermonettes. As you may know, I have grown to dislike the current way that I post these, namely on a separate page, which I fear is being lost into oblivion. So, my goal is to bring them to the front, making them easier to access by posting them weekly right here. This gives me latitude to actually catalog them by topic, which you can then check out in the categories link to the right of this page:
Today’s sermonette also falls in line with this statement on goals being wishes without plans attached as it will challenge you to consider how well your beliefs match up with your actual life style. Go ahead, give it a read/listen, and let me know what you think.
Here is the sermonette for today. It is based on 2 Corinthians 5:17 (The audio for this sermon is here)
Therefore if anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creature;
the old things passed away;
behold, new things have come.
Back in college this verse was etched in the wood across our fireplace mantel, and since that time, it has been etched on my life as I stand in complete amazement that regardless of my past, only new days are ahead for me.
And…for you too, my Christian friend.
Notice the clarity and the conviction with which Paul writes his words:
The old thing things passed away
…regardless of our former way of living, in Christ IT IS GONE, it is null, it need not have any effect upon you
And yet one too many of us live as though this is fiction and not fact; as though this is something that has a nice ring to it, but it is as hollow as the day is long
So here is my closing thought and promise to you: If you spend time to understand what you need to do in order to experience the power from God’s word here in this Scripture, your New Year will be full of blessing.
I know that that is one resolution that God Himself will honor.
Blessings on your journey
