so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.
This is the promise for the children who honor their parents.
This very promise should be ample motivation to have conversation with our children about their need and reason to obey us; and our need to understand them so that our homes can better reflect God’s loving design for families
Now, one reason for living longer is that a child’s obedience will be a great hedge around him from the many vices that lure disobedient children.
And, yet, some have known children who have honored their parents and died prematurely.
While this appears to contradict God’s word, I think it speaks more to our desire to to understand a Sovereign God, which could be likened to trying to nail jello to the wall.
So in closing, may I suggest that we focus on what we can control, namely helping our children understand that obedience is far better than rebellion; and to, also let go of questions we will not understand.
