While I realize that the stereotypical image of a group of men is visualized with them grunting and scratching themselves is alive and well, I want to report that we shattered that image on our second annual men’s cookout.

Sure there was a little grunting smiley face, but there was a lot of gut level sharing, that I think even women would envy

We met on a Friday later afternoon on a parishoner’s 250 acre piece of property.  Some of our men had been there earlier in the Summer/Spring clearing out a camp site.   (Our intent is to enlarge the camping area in order to be able to host other church’s and even add an outdoor chapel.)

When I got there, camp was set up, and the pork and beans were all ready on the fire in the biggest cast iron dutch oven I had ever seen (see our pics above).

The food was abundant as was the time of talking around a roaring campfire late into the evening as we sang songs and fielded the question that our pastor asked each one of us ‘what is your purpose’.

The main take away for me is what our officially unofficial leader, Bob (who tells us that we all are leaders and that he isn’t leading) tell us:  that men need to be the men whom God has created so that our younger generation of men, at least them, will know what it means to be the head of he household.
